1. Common places for rust are the bottom of the quarter panels and the floor pans. The floor pan rust becomes especially problematic when the body mount loses integrity under the passengers feet. See picture of corroded body mount.
2. Scout owners are notorious for unwarranted modifications of their Scout. Some modifications can be poor engineering and unsafe. If a truck has many non-professional modifications, look for "creative engineering" parts on the truck. An example of an unwarranted modification is the pitman arm below. A pitman arm should never be cut and/or welded back together. This modification is not only unsafe but also illegal.
3. Hidden body damage: A Scout with straight fenders and quarter panels and no rust is pretty suspicious if the remainder of the vehicle is not in similar condition. A truck with a wheeling history can hide wear and tear to the interior of the truck with paint and bondo. In order to confirm a "straight" body, review the inner fenders and interior panels before drawing any conclusions.
