A conversion to a Cummins 4BT diesel series engine can offer high performance, better fuel economy and alternative fuel capabilities such as bio-diesel or vegetable oil (VO). According to the "Black Smoke Bronco" story in the September 2007 Volume 3, No. 9 issue of Diesel Power magazine, the 4BT can be tuned for 400 hp while still delivering 25 mpg. The engine pictured is rated at 120 hp. With 3.54 gears and a NV4500 overdrive, the fuel economy is 23 mpg highway and 19 mpg with combined city and highway driving.
